Enjoy the next generation of sportsboats. Backman21, the smallest and most affordable one-design boat with canting keel on the market.

"I have designed the Backman21 to be a modern sports boat with the latest technologhy available, such as canting keel, carbon rig and epoxy construction – all theses features enable us to have a light displacement. Backman21 is designed to be fast and is capable of top speeds +23 knots – Hans Backman designer”

Canting keel is not just about speed, but about convenience. The beauty with the canting keel is that it gives the same righting movement as one crew member in a trapeze or two on the rail. You can go out on a breezy day with one or two mates and just sail because the canting keel will do all the work for you.

The keel is moved side to side on a simple purchase system (8:1), it cants 43 degrees each side. The 1.50 meter keel can be retracted when its in central position by using a crane, draught is then reduced to 0.40 meter.

LOW DISPLACEMENT
The major advantage with a canting keel is that its possible to reduce the overall displacement with kept righting moment. Low displacement is also a major factor when you are getting up on the plane

Yacht racing has entered a exciting new phase, with Backman21 almost everyone has an opportunity to sample this brave new world for themselves.
